Move Aklan Forward was a political ideology my father, Ben Hur Zabal Mobo, started when he ran for office as a Board Member in 1964. He continued to pursue the campaign until he was elected OIC-Governor in 1986, and passed away the next year.
My father was a very idealistic man. He believed that Aklan can come out behind the shadows of its neighboring provinces. He believed that Aklan can rise up and live up to its true potentials. He was realistic too. He knew that as Aklanons, we have in us the cultural characteristics that can create an exceptional society. We are pliable and sensible. We seek for knowledge and self-improvement. We know the value of hard work, and still manage to keep our lives in perspective. Additionally, our province boasts high diversity of natural resources, ranging from a white sandy beach to wetlands and we pride ourselves with major products as corn, coconut, abaca, and pina, among others.
It was unfortunate that my dad passed so early in his political career to ensure that his ideals become a reality. Thus, 23 years have passed and I have taken upon myself to continue the dreams of what could have been. My father has instilled in me the same ideals, and I have come to understand that only with the right administration and the right perspective, that we can truly make anything possible.
