We all try to be perfect parents, but sadly, no one ever will. But we can try to be good, if not better parents. Typically, we gain our parenting skills through our own experience with our own parents. Not to say that our parents do not know any better, rather to indicate that there are varying opinions, some are evidence-based practices for young parents which are promoted by child development specialists. It is most sensible to look into it and gain an understanding and choose our own practices built on what we think is most suitable for us. In essence, make your decisions based on adequate research and personal situation.
Jun and I had Nikki at such a young age. At that time, information was not as abundant and as easily accessible to us in Aklan. For one thing, books on parenting were scarce and hard to find. Thus, we relied on our parents to teach us what they know best and have been blessed to have such fine role models. Times have changed now with the advent of the internet. It empowers anyone who has an access to a computer and the internet to look up any information anyone likes. So, I pledge young parents to seek for knowledge, to aspire to be better, and to desire nothing but the best for your children.
Your role as parents greatly predicts how your children will turn out. Start the education at home and let us build strong men and women of the future!
Jun and I are devoted parents and have been equally proud to have raised such wonderful children!
