I come from a political family and also married to another. No matter how I tried to elude being a public figure and a servant of the community, how I opted for a civilian life, politics has not ceased to knock at my door. This time, however, it came crawling underneath and I decided to unlock my passion and face it head on. I suppose I find it very difficult to detach myself from politics considering that it is in my blood and in my soul. I suppose it is difficult to turn away from an administration that is so in need of an overhaul, especially when I know I could do a better job than others. I am not satisfied to make myself comfortable knowing that there are thousands out there who suffer for the barest necessities of life. To quote Margaret Fuller, “If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it”. I want to do what I think I was put on this earth to do. And I am really grateful to have something that I am passionate about and that I think is profoundly important. After all, we are all obliged to keep trying to do the best we can everyday. This is the value that was instilled in me by my family.
“It’s time for greatness - not for greed. It’s a time for idealism - not ideology. It is a time not just for compassionate words, but compassionate action.” (Marian Wright Edelman)
